The Story Behind Wild Samara

A samara is a tiny winged seed—the papery kind that spins through the air from a maple tree, carried by the wind until it lands somewhere new.

That little journey became the inspiration for Wild Samara Prints.

Like a samara, our artwork begins in one place and travels out into the world, finding new homes, new people, and new places to land.

When my daughter and I decided to start our Snail Mail Club, we discovered something that made the name feel even more special: the letters from both of our names come together in SA • MA • RA. We couldn’t help but feel that Wild Samara was meant to be.

Through prints, patterns, paper goods, and little pieces of snail mail, Wild Samara is about creating something with love, sending it out into the world, and seeing where it takes root.

Sandra creates the illustrations and patterns that bring Wild Samara to life. Inspired by nature, travel, and the little details that make everyday life more joyful, she believes there’s always room for a little more color in the world.

Emma

Emma brings a fresh eye, plenty of ideas, and her own creative spark to Wild Samara. From helping choose designs and dreaming up monthly surprises to giving her very honest opinion when something needs a rethink, Emma keeps Wild Samara young, fun, and just a little bit wild.

The Little Details

Because you might be wondering

  • Every print you receive is created by me, Sandra Malan. This is a little collection of my own artwork, filled with the color, nature, pattern, and playful details I love.

    Each month, I’ll choose a piece from my growing collection of illustrations. You may even spot a favorite that has found its way onto one of my calendars, textiles, or other designs. I love the idea of giving these little pieces of art another way to find their way into your home.

  • Absolutely! After you subscribe, just send me a little note at hello@sandramalandesigns.com with the recipient’s name and mailing address, along with anything special you’d like me to include.

    I’ll take care of the rest! Their first happy-mail delivery will include a little note letting them know it’s a gift from you.

  • Each print is a little piece of my art, chosen especially for that month. While it isn’t a one-of-a-kind original, every print is signed and numbered by me and printed on beautiful archival-quality paper, something lovely to collect, frame, and enjoy for years to come.

  • All prints are 5×7, a sweet little size that’s easy to enjoy anywhere. Slip yours into a standard frame, tuck it into a journal, or add it to a growing collection of art you love.

  • Yes! The Diaries ships worldwide. US shipping is $1.50 a month, Canada is $10, and everywhere else is $15. The right price shows at checkout based on your address.

  • Because each print is made-to-order and shipped, we don't offer refunds once an edition has gone out. You can cancel anytime before the next month's cutoff (the 12th) and you won't be charged again. If a print arrives damaged or never arrives at all, email me a photo within 14 days and I'll send a replacement. Light wear from the postal service is part of getting real mail and isn't covered.

  • Every print is carefully packaged in a cello sleeve with a backer board to keep it safe and flat, then tucked into a kraft A7 envelope and finished with a little extra love.
